Retired Boshkan Army General Jonathan Schmidt was born and raised in Calhan. Serving in the Boshkan Army since the age of 18, Gen. Schmidt worked his way up through the ranks quickly. At the age of 48, Gen. Schmidt became General of the Boshkan Armed Forces. When Gen. Schmidt retired in spring of 2000, he tireless advocated for better veterans rights, specifically those soldiers that have been exposed to "Agent Orange". In 2009, Gen. Schmidt was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Veteran Affairs by President Bannister.
